BKK11333G - A joint partnership for 50% of the company is being offered to a suitable investor who would like to join in with an exciting and innovative Thai venture. This company is in the process of producing Thailand’s first automobile, and has already secured BOI (Board of Investment) approval from the Thai Government, meaning an eight year period when the company will incur no export or import duties. It is estimated that 25% of sales will be for the domestic market, with 75% exported to neighbouring countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Vietnam in the initial phase, with Europe targeted in the longer term. The vehicles will have a Grade B rating (vehicles used in Thailand at present are Grade C rated). Planned production is for an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), and once the factory is completed, and production is ready to roll (in about a year), the company plans to ask His Majesty The King to give the vehicle a brand name. Four factories are conceived in different Thai locations, on land that the company already owns, and each factory has planned construction costs of 600 million baht. This compares very favourably to factory start up costs of the seven leading foreign car producers that manufacture in Thailand; around 20 billion baht is spent to set up these factories, with production of around 100,000 units per month. This Thai Company is aiming to start small, with only 80 units per month envisaged at start up, rising to a maximum production of 400 units per month (100 units from each factory). Aiming to be Thailand’s version of the Proton, the successful Malaysian vehicle, the product will be much cheaper than a comparable Japanese product; one leading Japanese SUV sells for 1,200,000 baht, and the target price for this comparable Thai version is only 380,000 baht.
